Outside the Atwood Building, 550 West 7th Avenue, Anchorage, Alaska

Alaskans are gathering to peaceably petition the Governor on two matters. The event is peaceful and open to the public.

What we are asking

  1. That the Governor appoint an independent commission, modeled on New York City’s Mollen Commission, to publicly investigate allegations of systemic misconduct and cover-up involving Alaska’s judiciary and Department of Law.
  2. That the Governor work to make public the report and recommendation of the 2022/2023 Kenai Grand Jury, which investigated for 23 months and whose report the court sealed before the public could read it.

Why

Article I, Section 8 of the Alaska Constitution says: “The power of grand juries to investigate and make recommendations concerning the public welfare or safety shall never be suspended.” The Kenai Grand Jury’s recommendation has been sealed for more than three years.

The Alaska Court System has stated that Supreme Court Order 1993 was adopted to create a consistent process for citizen requests for grand jury investigations. We welcome responses from the Court System, the Department of Law, and the Governor’s office.

If there is no commission

If the Governor has not appointed an independent commission within 60 days, we plan to assemble again at noon on February 9, 2027, in front of the Nesbett Courthouse in Anchorage.
